First-year running back Ahmad Hardy explodes for 250 rushing yards in Tigers' 13th straight home win.
In front of a sun-soaked and sold-out Memorial Stadium, No. 25 Mizzou extended its home winning streak to 13 games with Saturday's 52-10 victory over Louisiana, powered by a career performance by running back Ahmad Hardy.
The first-year transfer from Louisiana-Monroe trampled the Ragin' Cajuns for 250 rushing yards on 22 attempts and three touchdowns, producing the most rushing yards by any FBS player in a game this season and seventh-most in a single game in Mizzou history. Only five players in Tigers' lore have rushed for more yards in a game: Devin West (319, 252), Brad Smith (291), Tony Temple (281), Henry Josey (263) and Tyler Badie (254). Perhaps most impressive for Hardy: His last carry of the day came with 10:02 left in the third quarter.
With the victory, Mizzou moved to 3-0 heading into next Saturday's Southeastern Conference opener against No. 11 South Carolina, a game that will kick off at either 6 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC or ESPN. Saturday's win extended the Tigers' home winning streak in nonconference games to 22.
For the game, Mizzou finished with 427 rushing yards on 62 attempts — the program's first 400-yard rushing day under sixth-year coach Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers' first game to break the 400-yard mark since a 2017 victory over Tennessee, when the Tigers ran 53 times for 433 yards. Freshman Marquise Davis got into the act in the second half, finishing with a career-best 113 yards and a touchdown.
In his third start at quarterback for the Tigers, Beau Pribula shook off a first-half interception to finish an abbreviated day with 174 yards on 15-of-22 passing with two touchdowns. He also ran for a score. Kevin Coleman Jr. led Mizzou's pass catchers with eight receptions for 84 yards.
For the game, the Tigers outgained ULL 606-121. Outside of one long touchdown run, Mizzou smothered ULL's offense, holding the Sun Belt Conference program to 4 yards through the air on just 2-of-14 passing. It marked the fewest passing yards the Tigers have allowed in a game since Oklahoma didn't gain a yard against Mizzou in 1976.
Hardy got the scoring going early with a 7-yard touchdown scamper for a 7-0 lead to close out a 10-play, 73-yard drive.
An early setback turned into the Tigers' favor midway through the first quarter when Louisiana's Jalen Clark seemingly stripped the ball loose from wideout Marquis Johnson as he tried to stretch the ball across the goal line. Louisiana's Maurion Eleam returned the recovered fumble 99 yards for an improbable defensive touchdown, but a replay review ruled that Johnson had broken the plane of the goal line, good for a Mizzou touchdown. The 11-yard scoring toss was Pribula's sixth TD throw of the season.
Following another defensive stop by the Tigers, Pribula called his own number from an empty backfield, knifing 14 yards through the Louisiana defense for his third rushing touchdown of the season, pushing the Tigers' lead to 21-0.
Pribula wasn't done. Early in the second quarter, he slipped out of a sack deep in the backfield in time to find running back Jamal Roberts open in the flat. Roberts slithered his way through the Louisiana secondary for a 29-yard catch and run to the end zone, his first career touchdown reception, good for a 28-0 lead.
Midway through the second quarter, Louisiana capitalized on Pribula's first interception of the season, booting a 34-yard field goal following Cameron Whitfield's pick deep in Mizzou territory.
The momentum didn't last for the visitors. Two snaps into Mizzou's next possession, Hardy was off to the races down the Tigers' sideline, outracing the entire ULL defense 71 yards for his second score of the game to put him at 164 rushing yards with six minutes left in the opening half.
The Ragin' Cajuns had a little rage left in the first half, ripping off an 82-yard Zylan Perry touchdown run to reach double digits for the game, but the Tigers squeezed in one more score before the break, a 22-yard Robert Meyer field goal for a 38-10 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Tigers added rushing touchdowns by Hardy and Davis to pull away for good, setting up next week's showdown with the Gamecocks.
