The Tigers fall to 0-2 in extra inning games, as they finished the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic 2-3.
Mizzou softball (2-3) dropped the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic finale to South Alabama (4-1), 4-5, in 11 innings on Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The Tigers wrap up their opening tournament with a 2-3 record, after dropping two extra-inning games.
Freshman Abby Carr served as the centerpiece of this game, as she opened it with her first career home run in the second inning. She would later relieve senior Courtney Donahue and pitched four and a third scoreless innings in relief.
Donahue would get the nod in this one, for her second career start and first since Feb. 15, 2025, when she started against San Diego State at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex. She would throw three innings and allow two earned runs from the circle.
The Jaguars would get to her at the bottom of the third as back-to-back singles scored two and gave them the lead, 2-1. Once Carr stepped into the circle, South Alabama couldn't get anything going until extra innings, as the freshman would hold them to two runs until extras.
Sophomore Madison Uptegrove would be the one to tie up the game at two, as she singled with bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning.
Both sides would go scoreless in the seventh, as the Tigers went into their second extra-inning game of the tournament. In the top half, junior Abby Hay scored a run with a single to center field, making it 3-2. The Jaguars returned the favor with an RBI single of their own to push into the next inning.
The next inning would have drama without any scores, as the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs. A double play at the plate and on first, ultimately stopped them from scoring. In the bottom half, freshman Addy Waits would save the game with a throw to the plate to get the runner on third.
Hay struck again in the top half of the 10th, as a single to right field once again gave Mizzou the lead 4-3. South Alabama once again struck with a ground out, before scoring one final run in the bottom of the 11th to win 5-4.
