As part of the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, the Tigers will take on Nebraska in one of two matches played at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Sunday, Sept. 6.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou volleyball is set to compete in the first-ever outdoor volleyball match at world-famous Wrigley Field in Chicago against Nebraska on Sunday, Sept. 6.
This first-of-its-kind event will put the Tigers on the national stage as they take on the Cornhuskers live on FOX, either at 6 p.m. or 8 p.m., at Wrigley Field. Joining them on this stage will be Penn State and Kentucky, as this will be a doubleheader that will round out the first-ever SEC/Big Ten Volleyball Challenge Week.
"What an incredible opportunity for our volleyball team to compete under the lights at Wrigley Field this fall against Nebraska," head coach Dawn Sullivan said. "This is a moment our players will carry with them for the rest of their lives. To play on such a historic stage, in a city that means so much to us, makes it even more memorable. We are grateful to be part of this event and excited to show the passion and energy that makes our game so special."
The doubleheader at Wrigley joins a trend of outdoor volleyball matches, as this one is set to upstage all others at one of the most historic venues in the country. Mizzou's participation in this event is yet another opportunity for the volleyball program to make headlines on a national scale. Last season, the Tigers hosted Stanford in the SEC/ACC Showdown at the Net, which was featured on ESPN.
"This is a historic moment for the Chicago Cubs, Big Ten and the SEC that has been months in the making," said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney. "We're thrilled to welcome these incredible schools and student-athletes to the first-ever collegiate volleyball game at Wrigley Field."
As part of the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, throughout the week, various campus sites will host two Big Ten and two SEC teams. Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas will host standalone home matches against Big Ten foes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Before the match in Chicago, the Tigers host Oregon at Hearnes Center on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with the match being broadcast on one of the FOX Network Family Channels.
"Bringing the SEC and Big Ten together for a championship-caliber volleyball showcase, culminating at an iconic venue like Wrigley Field, reflects the extraordinary momentum of the sport," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. "This initiative not only elevates volleyball on a national stage but also underscores a continued growth and investment in women's athletics. We are proud to be part of an event that celebrates the competitive excellence of these student-athletes while helping shape an even more prominent future for women's athletics."
Presales for tickets begin on Monday, April 6, with the general public on-sale starting on Thursday, April 9. Additional ticket information will be available in the coming days.
