COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball split its opening pair of games against Vanderbilt on Friday and Saturday at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou picked up its second-straight home conference victory in game one, as a six-run eighth inning on Friday night led to a walk-off win in the 10th inning on Saturday, following a weather suspension.
The Tigers (22-27, 5-21 SEC) fell in the second game of the series, another extra-inning battle in which the Commodores (29-23, 11-15 SEC) prevailed in 11 innings.
GAME ONE RECAP
Mizzou nearly posted a scoring chance in the first inning when Blaize Ward's base hit sent Kam Durnin to third, but Ward was gunned down trying to reach second and MU went quietly.
Just an inning later, the Commodores scratched the first tally as a leadoff walk resulted in a 1-0 VU lead.
Missouri starter Josh McDevitt rolled through the first three with six K's, but Vandy came up with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to add two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth on a homer.
In the bottom of the sixth, Durnin ripped a double down the left-field line followed by Ward's RBI single that drove in the Tigers' first run and cut the Tigers' deficit to three.
Vanderbilt extended its lead with a solo home run and an single RBI in the seventh, which made the score 6-1.
In the eighth, the Tigers erupted for six runs. Ward knocked another single, followed by a double from junior catcher Mateo Serna. After a VU miscue gave MU its first tally of the inning, the scoring opened for Mizzou as center fielder Kaden Peer found the LC field gap to make it 6-3, Vandy. Mizzou would not stop there however, as consecutive bunts were well-executed for base hits to score another pair and bring Missouri to within one. The tying run was brought across after a pair of walks and then Ward finished what he started with an RBI groundout, giving the Tigers a 7-6 edge with just three outs to get.
After a two-out walk extended the Commodores' ninth inning and put a pair of runners on, a ground-rule double notched the tying run and prompted the suspension of play at 12:10 a.m. due to a heavy fog. Lefty Juan Villarreal picked up the action nearly 16 hours later and got a punchout to give Mizzou a chance in the bottom half of the ninth, but after the first two reached base no further damage was done.
A clean 10th from Villarreal gave Mizzou its chance, and a two-out knock up the middle by Jordan brought Durnin home as the junior drew a walk to open the inning, giving Mizzou an 8-7 win. The hit marked the Tigers' first walk-off hit since Jeric Curtis' game-winner against Florida on April 7, 2024.

GAME TWO RECAP
Vanderbilt jumped ahead with a pair in the first inning, and added a third run on a solo shot in the second.
Mizzou would provide an answer, after walking the bases loaded a Vanderbilt balk brought in a run. Durnin would follow that up with a double to left-center which brought in a pair of runs. The Tigers kept tacking on runs with a Ward single up the middle which put the Tigers out front 4-3 heading into the third.
LHP Brady Kehlenbrink settled in after Vandy's early ambush as he struck out two batters in both the third and fourth innings and held the 'Dores off the scoreboard.
Mizzou loaded the bases once again as Peer singled and Chris Patterson got hit by a pitch. Eric Maisonet placed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners before Leo Humbert drew a walk. Two of those runs scored from a wild pitch, complemented by a deep sacrifice fly to center by Jase Woita, extending the Tigers lead to four with a score of 7-3. An inning later, Missouri added more as Jordan doubled down the left field line to extend Mizzou's lead to 8-3 and continue his strong day.
In the sixth, Vanderbilt responded by scoring three runs on four hits cutting the lead to a pair before inclement weather caused the game to enter a delay.
After a delay that spanned just over an hour, Mizzou came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth. An inning later, VU plated another run to pull within one.
A solo shot for Vanderbilt tied the game at 8-8, from which point RHP Trey Lawrence would settle into his relief outing, retiring six straight batters.
