
#14 Mizzou Defeats #8 Oklahoma

Columbia, Mo.-Scoring a 197.000 team score, the #14 Mizzou Tiger gymnastics team picked up its first Big 12 Conference victory defeating the #8 ranked Oklahma Sooners. Besting OU to earn a second-place conference standing. Trailing behind the during the first three rotations, the Sooners counted two falls in their final rotation on balance bem to drop their team score to 196.700. The victory boosts the Tigers to 9-3 on the year with a 1-2 league record.
Starting off slowly scoring a 49.075 on vault, the Tigers stumbled on their strongest event. Alisha Robinson led the team posting a rotation high 9.900. Whitney Crater joined the junior scoring a 9.850, while Amanda Pezzullo, Lauren Schwartzman and Rachel Bridges each scored a 9.775.
Making a come-back on the uneven bars, Mizzou scored a 49.250 to tie the Tigers' second highest all-time mark. Andrea Nervig led the charge scoring a 9.900 while Robinson followed with a 9.875 mark. Further bolstering Missouri, Kelley Anderson tied her career high scoring a 9.850 routine while Katie Roets posted a 9.825 and Lindsay Davis scored a 9.800.
Starting the Tigers off solidly on the balance beam, Pezzullo and Bridges scored a 9.800 and Andersen posted a career-high 9.875 leading up to Mizzou's final duo. Robinson scored a 9.900 to bolster the Tigers, while Lauren Schwartzman followed up scoring a 9.950 to boost Mizzou to a 49.325 team total. The mark sets a new all-time high mark on the apparatus topping the Tigers' previous record scored earlier this season against Southeast Missouri State (49.275).
Rounding out their final rotation, the Tigers scored a 49.350-their third highest all-time total. Seniors Davis and Bridges led Mizzou off scoring solid 9.825 routines. Nervig upped the anti scoring a 9.925 scoring a career-high on the event. Building Mizzou's total, Robinson added another 9.825 mark leading into the Tigers' final competitive performanc. Summing up Mizzou's lineup, Schwartzman scored a 9.950 to tie for first-place honors on the event.
Missouri wraps up its 2004 regular season next weekend when it hosts the Mizzou Invitational on Sat., March 6 at 2:00 p.m. The Tigers welcome Centenary, Illinois State and Northern Illinois to their final season meet in the Hearnes Center.
