
#24 Mizzou Wins Third Consecutive Meet Title

Columbia, Mo.-- Highlighting the 25th Anniversary of the Callaway Bank Cat Classic, the #24 Mizzou Tigers won their third consecutive title scoring a 195.250--the fifth highest score in meet history. #31 New Hampshire finished second scoring a 192.850 while #36 Towson State placed third (192.650) and Illinois State finished fourth (187.900).
Seeing four of their six vault competitors hit a 9.800 or above, the Tigers opened the meet scoring its second highest team total of the year with a 48.850. In addition, the mark ranks as the seventh finest Cat Classic vault mark to date. Rallying a 48.450, the Tigers followed up recording the team's third highest season total on bars.
Moving into the third rotation on beam, Mizzou rallied a 48.850 scoring its second highest season mark and the sixth finest beam performance in Cat Classic history. Rounding out the meet just as they started, the Tigers saw four competitors score above a 9.800 helping Mizzou to a 49.075 team total--tying the fourth highest meet finish.
Leading the Tigers on two events, Lauren Schwartzman picked up her second consecutive Cat Classic beam title scoring a 9.875--her third highest season mark. The junior went on to claim top honors on floor scoring a 9.925 to also win her second consecutive floor title.
Topping the field as well Alisha Robinson scored her second highest mark of the year vaulting to a 9.875 to win her second consecutive vault title. Moving to bars, the senior scored a 9.675 before hitting a season high on beam with a 9.825 performance. Finishing up on floor, she scored a 9.775 to record a 39.150 to finish second in the all-around.
Joining Robinson in the all-around, Ashley Khederian scored a 38.875--her second highest career mark. Kicking off competition on vault, the freshman scored a 9.800 recording her second highest career mark and a fourth-place finish. Continuing strongly, she scored a 9.625 on bars and a 9.675 on beam. Rounding out the evening on floor, she put up a 9.775 to finish fifth overall.
Dual event specialist Whitney Crater opened the meet scoring a season high 9.825 on vault before rounding out the evening with a 9.825 showing on floor. The sophomore finished third on both apparatus.
Scoring a 9.800 on vault, Jodie Heinicka got started on the right foot recording a season high mark and a fourth-place finish. Moving onto bars, the junior shined on her signature event scoring a team high 9.775 to win her second consecutive Cat Classic uneven bar title.
Performing on three events, newcomer Julie Abaray once again bolstered the Tiger effort scoring solid marks across the board. Opening the meet on bars, she scored a 9.650 and jumpstarted the Mizzou effort on beam and floor scoring a 9.750 and 9.725, respectively.
Adding depth to the Tiger beam lineup, event specialist Amanda Pezzullo scored a 9.600. Stepping in on floor for the second consecutive meet, the sophomore then delivered a season high 9.800 performance to finish fourth overall.
Aiding the Mizzou effort, Sarah Zigler scored a 9.550 on vault while Kelley Andersen scored a 9.725 on bars to finish third in the meet. Andersen returns to the Tiger lineup following a heel injury that sidelined the junior from the practice week.
The Callaway Bank Cat Classic continues tomorrow night when the Tigers host the individual championship final. The meet begins at 7:00 p.m., featuring the top 10 competitors from each event during team competition.
