
Tigers take Fourth Against the Nation's Best

Fort Worth, Texas - The Fort Worth Convention Center was full of energy for the Metroplex Challenge Saturday evening. The Missouri Tigers finished in fourth place with a team total of 193.400 behind LSU who recorded a 195.550. Nebraska finished in second place with a score of 195.600 and the trophy went to Alabama who scored 196.825.
Missouri started off the meet on bars for the second time this season. Senior Alex Gold was the lead-off competitor, putting up a 9.675. Freshman Katelyn Trevino followed Gold, competing for the first time in her career at Mizzou. Trevino recorded a 9.750, and Sandra Ostad put up a 9.625. Taylor Medrea scored 9.750 on her bar routine followed by a 9.800 by Mary Burke and a 9.825 from Allie Heizelman. The Tigers closed out the first rotation with a score of 48.800.
The second rotation saw the Tigers on the beam, with Gold again in the lead-off spot. Gold put up an 8.875, followed by Lauren Swankoski who recorded a season-high 9.625. Alex Skinner also set a record, putting up a career-high 9.750, and Heizelman scored 9.725 on her routine. Mary Burke scored a season-high 9.875 to match the career high score she hit twice in 2010. The score put her in a three-way tie for third place on beam. Tori Howard scored an 8.850 to help the Tigers put up 47.850 in the second rotation. After two rotations, the Crimson Tide led the way with a score of 98.250. Nebraska held a score of 98.025 and LSU was holding a 97.875.
Looking to make a comeback in the third rotation, Mizzou came out energetic on floor. Heizelman started the rotation with a 9.450 followed by Medrea who posted a 9.475. Gold scored 9.625 on her routine, and Howard put up a 9.725. Swankoski recorded a 9.825 followed by Burke who scored 9.800 on floor to close out the third rotation. The Tigers were up to 145.000 after the third rotation.
Missouri finished the meet on vault. Brittani Price and Howard both started off the final rotation with scores of 9.625. Swankoski went third in the line-up, recording a 9.350. Burke and Gold followed with scores of 9.725. Ostad closed out the rotation, matching last week's score of 9.700 on vault.
Missouri will see the Cornhuskers again next weekend, when the Tigers host Nebraska on Friday, Feb. 4.
