
@MizzouGym Places Third at NCAA Regional, Porter Advances to NCAA Championships

Freshman Morgan Porter qualified for the NCAA Championships as an all-around competitor
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 20 Mizzou gymnastics team scored a 195.850 to finish third in the NCAA Minneapolis Regional Saturday afternoon to mark the team's best Regional finish since the team won the Columbia Regional in 2010. Freshman Morgan Porter (Overland, Mo.) placed third in the all-around competition with a 39.300 to qualify as an individual to the NCAA Championships, the first Tiger gymnast to advance since Rachel Updike in 2012.
Florida (196.725) and Minnesota (196.175) advanced to the Championships after they finished first and second, respectively, in the team race. Denver took fourth (195.700), followed by Ohio State in fifth (194.775) and BYU and sixth (194.075).
After a bye in the opening rotation, Mizzou tallied a 48.875 on floor. Sophomore Kennedi Harris led the squad with a 9.875 on the event, a score that held up as the second-highest of the day. Porter added a 9.850 and freshman Allison Bower (Mesa, Ariz.) notched a 9.800.
The Tigers notched a 49.050 on vault in the third rotation as every gymnast scored at least a 9.800 on the apparatus. Harris once again paced the team with a 9.850, while junior Angie Kern (Columbia, Mo.) sophomore Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshmen Porter, Xarria Lewis (Columbia, Mo.) and Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) all tallied scores of 9.800.
Mizzou posted a score of 48.950 on bars in the fifth rotation. Sophomore Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minn.) led the way with a 9.850, a tally good enough to tie her for third on the event. Porter scored a 9.825 and freshmen Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Mo.) and Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.) both went 9.775.
In the final rotation on beam, Ward posted a 9.900, her sixth score of 9.900 or higher on the event in 2016, as Mizzou went 48.975 on the event. Porter scored a 9.825, while Miller added a 9.775.
Porter will compete at the NCAA Championships as an individual on Thursday, April 15. Her session and rotation will be announced at a later date.
