COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 20 Missouri gymnastics team heads to St. Charles, Mo., to compete in the 2018 Mardi Gras Invitational against No. 4 LSU, No. 8 Arkansas and No. 21 George Washington on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Charles Family Arena. The meet will be broadcast live on FloGymnastics (fee).
TIGER TIDBITS
- Mizzou moved up four spots to No. 20 in this week's national rankings
- The Tigers posted a season-high score in a 197.150-196.375 loss to then-No. 3 LSU on Feb. 9
- Missouri also notched season-highs on three of four events, with a 49.350 on floor, 49.150 on vault and 49.100 on beam
- The meet also marked the first time this season the Tigers scored a 49 or better at least three events
- Competing in the all-around for the first time, junior Allison Bower totaled a 39.300, highlighted by a career-high 9.925 on floor
- A 196.325-196.150 win over No. 10 Arkansas on Jan. 19 was Mizzou's first over a top 10 team since a 195.800-195.350 win over No. 9 Georgia on Jan. 22, 2016, and the third-consecutive victory over Arkansas
- The 2018 Tigers return 94.2 percent of routines from a season ago
- In fact, Mizzou returns 100 percent of all bars and beam routines from a season ago, and 92.3 percent of all floor routines back and 85.7 percent of all vault routines back
- Mizzou's 2018 slate is ranked the fifth-toughest in the country entering the season, behind only SEC foes Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama
- Head Coach Shannon Welker enters his fifth season at the helm of the Tiger program. In his first four years in Columbia, Welker has Mizzou back in the national spotlight. In 2017, the Tigers finished 17th in the national ranking. The 2017 season also saw Mizzou go 3-4 in Southeastern Conference dual meet action, with wins over No. 12 Arkansas, No. 12 Kentucky and No. 18 Auburn. The Tigers entered the season with just one SEC dual win in program history

- Missouri tallied a season-high team score as the squad fell to No. 3 LSU, 197.150-196.375 on Feb. 9.
- Mizzou also notched season-best scores on floor, vault and beam, with tallies of 49.350, 49.150 and 49.100, respectively
- Junior Allison Bower totaled a 39.300 in her first-ever all-around performance.
- A 49.150 on vault put kept the home Tigers close after the first rotation, trailing LSU 49.200-49.150. Five different Tigers scored at least a 9.825, including a career-high-tying 9.850 from junior Madeleine Huber. Adding 9.825s were senior Shauna Miller, juniors Bower (9.825) and Britney Ward and sophomore Aspen Tucker
- Huber again led the way in the second rotation, this time tallying a team-best 9.825 on bars, as Mizzou went 48.775 as a team.
- Mizzou put up a 49.100 on beam in the third rotation, notching a season-high on the event for the second week in a row. Ward scored a 9.850 to pace the Tigers and freshman Gabrielle Gottula made her Missouri debut with a earned a 9.825. Junior Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.) added a 9.825 as well, while junior Tia Allbritten (Garland, Texas) and Bower added 9.800s.
- Missouri closed in style, as the squad went 49.350 as a team, shattering its old event season-high of 49.225. Senior Kennedi Harris matched her career-high with a 9.950, while Bower garnered a personal-best 9.925, surpassing her old high of 9.900. Tucker added a 9.850 and junior Michaelee Turner and Miller recorded season-bests with scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively
UP NEXT
- The Tigers hit the road for a pair of away meets next weekend. First Mizzou faces No. 9 Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 23 in Lexington, Ky. Then the squad heads to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.
MISSOURI RANKED 20TH IN LATEST NATIONAL POLL
- Mizzou jumped four spots to No. 20 in this week's national rankings
- This marks the final week rankings are based on average score. Starting Feb. 19, rankings will be determined by Regional Qualifying Score (take highest three road scores and three highest remaining scores, drop the highest score and average the remaining five)
- Missouri was 17th in the preseason coaches poll, announced on Dec. 11
- That was the highest preseason ranking for the Tigers since prior to the 2011 season, when they were chosen 13th
MIZZOU NOTCHES SEASON-TEAM SCORE AGAINST LSU
- The Tigers scored a season-best team score of 196.375 against LSU on Feb. 9
- The team also tallied season-highs on floor (49.350), vault (49.150) and beam (49.100)
- Mizzou's previous best team total of 2018 was a 196.325 against Arkansas on Jan. 19
- The 49.050 bested the team's previous high of 49.000, recorded against Arkansas on Jan. 19
BOWER STEPS UP IN THE ALL-AROUND
- Junior Allison Bower competed in all four events for the first time in her career against LSU on Feb. 9
- She responded with a 39.300 after scores of 9.925 on floor, 9.825 on vault, 9.800 on beam and a 9.750 on bars
- Her 9.925 on floor was a new career-high, besting her old mark of 9.900
- She also set season-bests on both beam (9.800) and bars (9.750)
GOTTULA MAKES HER DEBUT
- Freshman Gabrielle Gottula made her Mizzou debut on Feb. 9 in Mizzou's meet against LSU
- She made the beam lineup and responded with a 9.825 on the event, which tied for the second-best team score on the apparatus
- Gottula can also be a factor on vault and floor for the Tigers as the season progresses
