ON TAP THIS WEEK |
- Coming off its first loss of the season Mizzou Soccer will remain at home for the third-straight week — closing out a six-match home stand.
- Mizzou will host Cal State Fullerton under the lights on Friday night (Sept. 13) for the program's Blackout Game.
- The Tigers will remain at the friendly confines of Walton Stadium to host Northern Colorado on Sunday (Sept. 15).
LAST TIME OUT |
- The Tigers prevailed against Murray State on Thursday night, getting goals from Julissa Cisneros and Madison Lewis in the 12th and 80th minutes. Lewis' goal off a PK was her first of the season.
- Riding a 5-0 start to the season, Mizzou Soccer faced its first tumble of the season, allowing two goals in the final 15 minutes against Loyola Chicago for a 2-1 loss.
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT . . . CAL STATE FULLERTON |
- The Titans have jumped to a 4-2 start to the season, getting wins over Minnesota, Houston and Kansas State.
- Leading goal scorer for Cal State Fullerton is senior Maddie Bennett, with six. Bennett was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week after getting the game winners against Kansas State and Houston last week.
- Redshirt freshman Noa Schumacher has seen the majority of time in goal — playing 528:03 at keeper. Outside of the loss to Arizona State, Schumacher has allowed only three goals in five games, recording four shutouts.
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT . . . NORTHERN COLORADO |
- The Bears currently have wins over Grand Canyon (2-1) and Austin Peay (3-0) this season, and will face Power-5 opponents in their next three games.
- Northern Colorado is 2-1 this season when scoring multiple goals.
LUEBBERT GETS BACK TO HER SCORING WAYS |
- Failing to score a goal in the first three games of the season — albeit with three assists — senior Sarah Luebbert found the back of the net twice in a 3-2, double-overtime win over Xavier two Sundays ago.
- Luebbert scored in the second minute to give Mizzou an early lead, but her best moment came in the second overtime period, scoring the game-winner on a penalty kick.
- Luebbert added a goal in Sunday's loss to Loyola Chicago, bringing her total to three on season. The senior is second on the team with nine points (three goals, three assists.)
- The senior now has 24 goals on her career, moving her closer to Michelle Collins (2006-09) for eighth on the career record book with 27.
OFFENSE FUELS A GREAT START |
- Coming off a season in which the Tigers only scored 16 goals, Mizzou hoped to put their offensive woes behind them in 2019. Six games in, and the Tigers have seen a massive improvement in their offensive.
- Mizzou already has two games this season where the team records at least three goals. The program did not have a single three-goal game in 2018.
- Already with 12 goals on the season, five different players have reached the back of the net this season.
- The offensive showcase has the Tigers off to their best start to a season in 2012. Mizzou started that season with a 5-0 mark in their debut season in the SEC.
- Mizzou has scored a goal in all six games this season. The Tigers were shutout in five of their first six games in 2018 — leading to a 1-4-1 start that season.
BAUMAN THE HEIR TO DOSSEY |
- For the first time since 2014, Mizzou will be breaking in a new starting goalkeeper following the graduation of Kelsey Dossey at the conclusion of the 2018 season. Dossey played in 62 games over the course of her career, recording 203 saves.
- After not seeing the pitch in her first two years at Missouri, redshirt sophomore Peyton Bauman has gotten off to a strong start in the first six games of her collegiate career.
- Bauman's protection in goal has helped guide the Tigers to a 5-1 record, and the best start the program has seen since 2012.
- In addition to the hot start, Bauman secured her first shutout in her first collegiate game vs. Southern Miss.
- Through the first six games of her career, Bauman has trended closely to Dossey's debut season. Her 19 saves are more than the 14 Dossey had in her first six appearances in goal. While Bauman's .731 save percentage is lower than Dossey's .810 through the same span of games, Bauman has faced far greater heat, with opponents getting 27 shots on goal compared to the 16 shots on goal Dossey faced.
- Pushing Bauman for playing time is true freshman McKenna Sheehan. Sheehan played one year of high school soccer, but made the most of her limited experience — leading Cary-Grove HS to a berth in the IHSA Tournament with a record of 14-3-1.
DEFENDING WALTON STADIUM |
- Mizzou will have plenty of chances to take advantage of the friendly confines of Audrey J. Walton Stadium in 2019.
- The Tigers will play 12 of their 18 games at Walton Stadium, including six-straight home games from Aug. 29-Sept. 15.
- Since joining the SEC, beginning with the 2012 season, Mizzou has gone a combined 48-18-7 at home — a combined winning percentage of .706 over the last seven seasons.
