ON TAP THIS WEEK
- Back in the win column following two-straight losses, Mizzou Soccer will enter SEC play with a clean slate as the program seeks its seventh-straight appearance in the SEC Tournament (Nov. 3-10).
- Mizzou will hit the road for the first time since Aug. 25 to face Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss.
- The match will be streamed on SEC Network+, with kickoff at 7 p.m. CT.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Tigers were at home for the third-straight week, hosting Cal State Fullerton and Northern Colorado at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
- Mizzou dropped a thrilling, 3-2 match to Cal State Fullerton on Friday night. The Tigers clawed back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match at halftime with a pair of goals from Sarah Luebbert (38') and Macy Trujillo (43') in the final 10 minutes of the half. The Titan scored again in the 48' and Mizzou was unable to find a second-half equalizer.
- On Sunday, Mizzou bounced back from back-to-back losses, defeating Northern Colorado in the first overtime period. Grace Kitts scored the golden goal in the 96' to give Mizzou their sixth win of the season.
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT...OLE MISS
- Also owning a 6-2 record in nonconference play, Ole Miss has also secured a win over a Big Ten opponent, defeating Minnesota at home in a 3-2, double-overtime affair.
- The Rebels have seen the back of the net 18 times in 2019, firing off 19.4 shots a game – with 43.2-percent being on goal.
- Junior forward/midfielder Channing Forster leads Ole Miss with six goals on the year, while Julia Phillips (4), Madisyn Pezzino (3) and Haleigh Stackpole (2) finding the back of the net multiple times this season.
- Sophomore Ashley Okrus has made all eight starts in goal for the Rebels, recording 39 saves and 1.31 goals against average this season.
7-0...IT JUST MEANS MORE
- Since joining the conference in 2012, Mizzou is a perfect 7-0 in SEC openers.
- The Tigers defeated Ole Miss in their conference opener in 2016, winning 5-0 on the road in Oxford.
- Mizzou has outscored opponents 19-4 (+15) in SEC openers during that stretch.
DON'T CALL IT COMEBACK FOR KITTS
- Redshirt junior Grace Kitts – who missed all of 2018 while recovering from an injury – has appeared in all eight game this season, but made her presence known on Sunday against Northern Colorado.
- Five minutes into the first overtime period, Kitts took the deflection off of Lindsey Whitmore's shot and fired a shot from just outside the box for the game-winning goal in the 96'.
- Kitts' goal is her first since Oct. 29, 2017.
SHOOTING FOR A SURPLUS
- Mizzou's 2-1 overtime victory over Northern Colorado gave the team its sixth win of the season. The six wins through nonconference play matches the win total for Mizzou from last season.
- The Tigers are off to their best start since 2012 – when Mizzou opened the season on a five-game win streak. The team ended that nonconference slate 5-0-1 before going 8-5 in SEC play to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
GOALS, GOALS, AND MORE GOALS
- En route to one of the worst statistical seasons in program history in 2018 -- Mizzou saw the back of the net only 16 times during the season – the program hoped to put their offensive woes behind them. Through the nonconference season, Mizzou has seen a massive improvement in their offensive production.
- The Tigers matched that total on Grace Kitt's game-winning goal in overtime on Sunday against Northern Colorado.
- Eight Tigers have scored for Mizzou already this season, led by Julissa Cisneros (5) and Sarah Luebbert (4). Sophomore Bella Alessi joins the pair with two goals to her name this year.
- Luebbert has already matched her point total from last season, while Cisneros is one shy of matching her output as a freshman.
- Mizzou already has two games this season where the team recorded at least three goals. The program did not have a single three-goal game in 2018.
BAUMAN THE HEIR TO DOSSEY
- For the first time since 2014, Mizzou will be breaking in a new starting goalkeeper following the graduation of Kelsey Dossey at the conclusion of the 2018 season. Dossey played in 62 games over the course of her career, recording 203 saves.
- After not seeing the pitch in her first two years at Missouri, redshirt sophomore Peyton Bauman has gotten off to a strong start in the first eight games of her collegiate career.
- Bauman's protection in goal has helped guide the Tigers to a 6-2 record, and the best start the program has seen since 2012.
- In addition to the hot start, Bauman secured her first shutout in her first collegiate game vs. Southern Miss.
- Through the first eight games of her career, Bauman has trended closely to Dossey's debut season. Her 19 saves are more than the 17 Dossey had in her first six appearances in goal. While Bauman's .711 save percentage is lower than Dossey's .810 through the same span of games, Bauman has faced far greater heat, with opponents getting 42 shots on goal compared to the 21 shots on goal Dossey faced.
- Pushing Bauman for playing time is true freshman McKenna Sheehan. Sheehan played one year of high school soccer, but made the most of her limited experience — leading Cary-Grove HS to a berth in the IHSA Tournament with a record of 14-3-1.
