
Mizzou Men’s Golf Snags Best Finish of Season, Places 2nd at Famed Hootie

Ross Steelman led four Tigers in the Top 25 with a T-4 finish
COLUMBIA, MO.— Mizzou Men's Golf finished second overall against a vaunted 16-team field at the famed Hootie Intercollegiate at Bull's Bay in Awedaw, S.C. on Tuesday. The Tigers carded a 16-under par 848 (282-282-284) to place second, their highest team finish at a tournament since winning the Prairie in September of 2019.
Four Tigers finished in the Top-25 individually, led by Ross Steelman, who claimed wound up T-4 after three consecutive under-par rounds. Steelman sandwiched a 2-under 70 with a pair of 3-under 69s in the first and third rounds, consecutively. The redshirt sophomore secured the third Top-5 finish of his career.
Sophomore Yu-Ta Tsai put together the best performance of his career, finishing a career-best T-18. After a 5-over 77 in the opening round, Tsai came storming back with a 2-under 70 in Round One and a strong career-best-tying 4-under 68 in Tuesday's final round. The Hootie marked Tsai's first career event with multiple under-par rounds.
Junior Tommy Boone and senior Rory Franssen both fired even-par 216s, tying for 23rd overall. Boone fired a season-best 4-under 68 on day one to anchor his week. Franssen stayed solid, shooting three consecutive even-par rounds.
Mizzou's Walker Kesterson finished T-57 with a 222 and Viktor Einarsson finished T-81 with a 228 competing as an individual.
Mizzou now returns home for its annual MU Tiger Invitational at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. The tournament begins Monday, April 5 and concludes Tuesday, April 6.
