Men’s Basketball Cruises to Fifth-Straight Win

Led by a dominant effort inside, the Mizzou men's basketball team cruised to an 18-point win over Prairie View A&M, 91-73, on Monday night. The victory pushes the Tigers to 5-0 on the year, while Prairie View A&M drops to 2-3.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Six players in the Black & Gold reached double-digit points in the winning effort.
Senior Jacob Crews led the team with 20 points, his most as a Tiger, to go with eight rebounds. Junior Anthony Robinson II notched 13 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field, nabbing two steals and notching a team-leading five assists.
Jayden Stone scored 12 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and matching Robinson with five assists. Jevon Porter and Shawn Phillips Jr. each matched Stone with 12 points, Phillips nabbed a season-high 13 rebounds, leading the way on the boards and recording his second double-double of the season.
GAME RECAP
The Tigers jumped out to an 8-2 lead early by way of triples from Jevon Porter on back-to-back possessions followed by two makes at the charity stripe for the senior.
Leading by one, a Robinson steal that led to his layup ignited a 20-2 run for MU, highlighted by Porter dish leading to a Stone slam, extending the lead to 21, 33-12. Robinson pushed Missouri's lead to 24 with a layup followed by a three on back-to-back possessions.
The Tigers and Panthers traded buckets as the first stanza closed with MU holding a 22-point lead, 49-27.
The Tigers came out of the break with a Porter layup followed by a Phillips slam, extending the lead to 54-30. Missouri pushed the lead to 30 with a 13-0 run, ignited by a Luke Northweather 3-pointer, marking the score at 69-39.
With the score at 70-41, Crews hit back-to-back 3-pointers, extending the lead to 35, their largest lead of the game.
Missouri put the finishing touches on the 18-point win, highlighted by a Crews putback slam before the final buzzer, as the Tigers took the victory, 91-73.
TEAM STATS
Missouri shot 51.6 percent from the field in the winning effort with a 10-of-23 clip (43.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tigers have shot over 50.0 percent from the field in each game this season.
MU flexed their depth, outscoring the Panthers bench 42 to 18. Missouri outrebounded Prairie View A&M 49 to 28 in the win, while holding a 44-22 edge in points in the paint.
As a team, Prairie View A&M shot 37.9 percent and made 9-of-23 from 3-point range.
