Men’s Basketball Dominates Mississippi State for 10th SEC Win

Starkville, Miss. – The Mizzou men's basketball team cruised past Mississippi State on the road, 88-64, on Saturday afternoon – earning its largest SEC win of the season. Claiming their sixth win in their last eight games overall, the Tigers improve to 20-9 on the year and 10-6 in SEC play, while the Bulldogs drop to 13-16 and 5-11 versus league foes.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Five Tigers scored in double figures to lead Mizzou to the dominating victory. Senior Mark Mitchell led MU with 17 points to go with four boards, while classmate Shawn Phillips Jr. added 16 points – his most in an SEC game –collecting four boards and two blocks.
Junior Anthony Robinson II chipped in 13 points with junior Trent Pierce and sophomore T.O. Barrett also adding 10 points.
Graduate student Jayden Stone just missed his first double-double of the season with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
GAME RECAP
The Tigers dominated from the start, scoring the first nine points and never giving the lead back. Phillips controlled the game early for Mizzou, using a personal 8-0 stretch to give the Tigers a 20-point lead, 28-8. At that point in the game, Phillips was outscoring the Bulldogs, 12-8, through 10 minutes of play.
The lead would stretch to a 31-point advantage at the half, 54-23. The Tigers would continue to stay in cruise control in the second period, leading by as many as 36 and not letting the Bulldogs closer than 24 en route to the 88-64 win.
TEAM STATS
The Tigers shot 50.8 percent in the winning effort with an 8-of-19 clip from 3-point range (42.1 percent). Mizzou also controlled the game via points off turnovers, 27-10, while also winning second-chance points, 14-5.
The Bulldogs made 49.1 percent of their field goals but were just 5-of-19 from 3-point range, while also losing the battle at the free-throw line, 20-7.

The Tigers aim to continue their winning ways away from home, playing at Oklahoma on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on SEC Network.
