Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at No. 22 Tennessee

Mizzou women's basketball fell 98-53 to No. 22 Tennessee on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter totaled 20 points, three rebounds and two assists. Slaughter has scored 20 or more points in 13 games this season.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell added 11 points, five boards and two steals.
Sophomore guard Chloe Sotell turned in nine points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
A blistering pace set the early tone in the contest as the programs exchanged a myriad of possessions. Slaughter tallied a trio of layups and Sotell buried a 3-pointer, but the Lady Vols built an initial lead.
As the clock neared the conclusion of the first, Mizzou (16-11, 4-8 SEC) bested the Tennessee press and junior guard Shannon Dowell dropped in a floater. Despite the make, the Lady Vols led 29-13 after one.
Four Tigers registered baskets in the second quarter, but Tennessee continued to extend its advantage throughout the period and led 53-22 at the break.
Missouri continued to battle following the half, but was unable to cut into the Lady Vols advantage. Dowell scored seven of her total in the third and Sotell added another make from beyond the arc.
Slaughter notched 10 of her final point total in the final frame, Tennessee held its advantage and closed the contest.
Mizzou finished with 18 fast break points while Tennessee was limited to seven.

Mizzou returns home to face Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Mizzou Arena. The contest will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and the Tiger Radio Network.
