
Softball Completes Sweep of Mizzou Bye-Week Series

The Tigers go undefeated on the weekend in the Mizzou Bye-Week Series, as they are now 12-16 on the season.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball (12-16, 0-3 in SEC) wrapped up the Mizzou Bye-Week Series with a perfect 4-0 record as the Tigers swept through the doubleheader with a 9-0 win against South Dakota and 6-4 versus Iowa State on Saturday, March 14 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Mizzou 9, South Dakota 0
The Tigers gained early momentum with junior Stefania Abruscato hitting a home run in the first - her first of the year, putting the Tigers up with an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, sophomore Sophie Smith doubled, allowing junior Abby Hay to slide home, increasing the score to 3-0.
In the second inning, junior Claire Cahalan laid down a perfect bunt to reach first base. Abruscato followed with a double to right field to send Cahalan home, pushing the Tigers' lead to 4-0. Shortly after, freshman Sidney Forrester blasted a two-run home run to make it 6-0.
Missouri kept the momentum going in the third, when freshman Abby Carr sent another one out of the park, increasing the lead to 7-0. Freshman Addy Waits kept the scoring going with a line drive out to left field, for two runs to bring the score to 9-0.
The Tigers sealed the deal with the five-inning rule, with junior Marissa McCann posting her eighth strikeout of the game. McCann had a dominant game, pitching the full five innings.
Mizzou 6, Iowa State 4
Missouri started hot early again with the bases loaded. Freshman Abby Carr recorded a three-run double to get an early 3-0 lead. Sophomore Madison Uptegrove followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-0 to close the first inning.
The Cyclones answered with a solo home run, cutting into the deficit 4-1. Senior Cierra Harrison got the Tigers out of the inning with three straight strikeouts to end the second.
Iowa State opened the third with a single RBI, making the score 4-2, followed by a two-run home run to tie the contest 4-4.
Freshman Addy Waits answered for Missouri with a RBI double, putting the Tigers back on top, 5-4, to end the fourth inning.
To close the fifth, Carr recorded her fourth RBI of the day with a single as the Tigers extended their lead to 6-4. Missouri was able to hold on to the advantage to clinch the win against the Cyclones 6-4.

- Larissa Anderson is now 383-234-1 all-time.
- The Tigers are now 3-0 against South Dakota.
- Marissa McCann pitched the complete game against South Dakota, while recording eight strikeouts.
- Freshman Carr finished the second game pitching 4.2 innings and allowing one earned run, while also going 2-3 with four RBIs.
- Mizzou is now 58-30 all-time against Iowa State.
- The Tigers combined for 16 strikeouts between both games.
- Missouri combined for 15 RBI's between both games.
