COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball dropped game two of its three-game Southeastern Conference series to No. 24 Arkansas, 6-0, on Friday night at Taylor Stadium.
The Razorbacks (29-15, 11-9 SEC) used a solid pitching performance and a pair of big innings to earn the series clincher over the Tigers (20-23, 3-17 SEC).
Left-handed starter Brady Kehlenbrink went 5.1 IP and allowed four runs on five hits while striking out eight Razorbacks, his third-straight outing punching out at least eight.
Kehlenbrink cruised out of the gates, going nine up, nine down with seven punchouts as he put down the side via the strikeout in both the first and third innings. MU got the first couple of baserunners of the evening when Cameron Benson drew a walk, and Donovan Jordan delivered the first hit of the game in the third, but the Tigers were unable to create anything from it.
Arkansas drew first blood on a two-out, two-run homer in the fourth, and added three more in a sixth inning where the Hogs sent nine batters to the plate to give the visitors a 5-0 lead.
Mizzou produced its best threat of the game in the fifth inning thanks to a pair of walks by Benson and Peer, which put men on first and second with just one away, but the Tigers were unable to produce the big hit.
Arkansas added another to its lead in the eighth, sealing the 6-0 victory as Mizzou's offense couldn't find a rally.
NOTEBOOK
- Kehlenbrink produced his third-straight outing with 8-plus strikeouts.
- Pierre Seals had a base knock, his second-straight game with a hit
- Jordan's base hit was his second of the series after he drove in a run with a pinch-hit single off the bench in Thursday night's contest.
- Benson drew a pair of walks and has reached twice in two of the last three contests.
- Peer went up and took away a home run at the wall in left-center field in the second inning for his third successful home run robbery of the season, also doing so against No. 24 Kentucky and No. 14 Oklahoma.
The Tigers are back at Taylor Stadium to host No. 24 Arkansas for the series finale on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT (SEC Network+). All Mizzou baseball games can also be streamed on the Varsity Network by Learfield, with longtime play-by-play announcer Tex Little on the call and Matt Michaels providing color.
