
Brigham Young Wins 2002 Cat Classic Team Competition

Columbia, Mo.-At the 22nd Annual State Farm Cat Classic, the University of Missouri Tigers finished second with a score of 194.475-the second highest score posted by MU in competition history. The Brigham Young Cougars won the competition going 194.950 while Pittsburgh finished third (193.050) and Auburn rounded out the field in fourth (192.500). BYU's team total also set a new Cat Classic mark as the highest score in competition history.
Highlighting the Tigers' performance, freshman Alisha Robinson took home the all-around title scoring a 39.250. She tied the Missouri floor exercise record and set a new freshman mark in the event nailing a 9.925 routine to win the apparatus. Robinson also scored a 9.850 on the balance beam and put up a 9.825 on the vault to boost Mizzou.
Junior Leah Gremaud won the balance beam competition tying her career-high and Missouri beam record with a 9.925. She went on to finish third on the floor exercise throwing a 9.875-her highest score of the season and a career-mark.
As a team, Mizzou's signature event for the evening was the floor exercise where the Tigers scored their second-highest team score with a 49.250. Rachel Bridges opened the event with scoring a career-high 9.800. Her momentum carried through as the rest of the Tigers put forth 9.8-plus efforts. Laura Forbes went 9.800, Leah Gremaud went 9.875, Alina Hamm and Ashley Asraf both scored a 9.825 and Alisha Robinson hit her 9.925.
The Cat Classic continues tomorrow night when the top-10 competitors from each event compete for individual titles. The meet begins at 7:00 p.m., in the Hearnes Center.
