Tennis Sweeps Wednesday Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou tennis kicked off their Spring 2015 schedule Wednesday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex, and walked away with two convincing wins over the opposition. The Tigers swept Northern Iowa 7-0 in the first contest, and followed that up with a 6-1 win over SIUE.
Wednesday's pair of dominating victories improved the Tigers to 3-1 this season. Junior Kelli Hine, freshman Clare Raley, sophomore Cassidy Spearman, sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos, and freshman Brianna Lashway all went undefeated in their matchups.
Raley tallied her first NCAA career singles victory over Northern Iowa's Astrid Santos to highlight her team's opening win. The Atlanta, Ga. native took that success to her second singles match against SIUE, defeating Haley Ilecwicz in straight sets.
Spearman maintained her perfect start to the Spring 2015 season with three total victories throughout the day. The talented Tiger sophomore now sits at a combined 6-0 through Mizzou's first four matches.
After dropping her first two singles contests two weekends ago, Hine responded in a big way Wednesday with a duo of wins against the Panthers and Cougars. Sophomore Brittany Lashway earned her first singles win of the spring season after defeating SIUE's Sierra Halverson.
Mizzou hits the road Friday, Jan. 30 for another doubleheader in Wichita, Kan. The Tigers square off against Wichita State at 8 a.m. (CT) and then follow up with a matchup against Creighton at 12 p.m. (CT).
