Mizzou Drops 6-1 Match Against No. 36 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou tennis opened up their weekend at home Friday evening at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. After a tight battle early-on, the visiting GameCocks ultimately pulled away with a 6-1 match victory over the Tigers.
Friday evening began at doubles play with each team fighting back and forth. After South Carolina took the first match, the Tiger duo of freshman Brianna Lashway and senior Alex Clark responded with a big 8-4 victory over No. 45 ranked Brigit Folland and Meghan Blevins.
Tonight's doubles contest with Brianna Lashway and Clark was their first contest together this spring. The tandem went an impressive 8-3 in doubles play this fall season which included two event championships.
After dropping the third and deciding doubles match, the Tigers and Gamecocks moved on to singles play. Sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos evened the match score right away with a straight set wins at No. 3 play.
Santos improved to 8-4 this spring season, and is tied for second most singles wins amongst Tiger players.
After evening the match score at 1 apiece, the Tigers struggled the rest of the way and South Carolina ultimately took home a 6-1 match victory.
Up next for Mizzou is another home match this Sunday, March 15 against No. 3 Florida. First serve at the Mizzou Tennis Complex is set for 12 p.m. (CT).
