Santos Upsets Austin in @MizzouTennis’ Loss to Florida

Santos defeats reigning SEC Player of the Year, Brooke Austin, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8)
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mizzou Tennis (12-3, 0-2 SEC) fell to No. 15-ranked Florida, 6-1, on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. Mizzou picked up its only winIn singles play, junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated No. 12-ranked (ITATennis.com) and reigning SEC player of the year, Brooke Austin at the No. 1 singles position.
Florida took the doubles point after picked up wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Mizzou's team of Santos and senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas) fell at No. 1 to Austin and Kourtney Keegan, 6-0, while sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Nigel, Calif.) fell, 6-4 to Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcook at No. 2.
In singles, Santos picked up the lone victory for the Tigers at the No. 1 position. The Tiger junior captured the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second set, 4-6. In the third set, the two played a tiebreaker set to 10 points. Santos narrowly pulled out the victory, winning 10-8, earning her first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Mizzou will return home for its SEC home opener on Saturday, March 12, when the Tigers host Arkansas at 12 p.m. CT at the Mizzou Tennis Complex
