Mizzou sets an attendance all-time high at 259
COLUMBIA, Mo. – In the first match of a four-match home stand, No. 60 Mizzou Tennis (15-9, 2-8 SEC) dropped an SEC contest, 4-0, to No. 5 Vanderbilt (15-4, 8-2 SEC) on Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. For the second time this season, Mizzou reset its program attendance record as 259 fans witnessed the Tigers take on the Commodores.
Mizzou previously set the all-time attendance record against Auburn on March 18 when 241 fans packed into the Green Tennis Center on the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Vanderbilt took the doubles point following wins on courts one and three, both by a score of 6-2. In singles play, Vanderbilt clinched the match after wins at the No. 1, 2, and 3 positions. On court one, No. 60 junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) fell to No. 19 Sydney Campbell, 6-0, 7-6. The two ranked tennis players battled in the second set, with Santos fighting back to force the tiebreaker after being down early in the set. Campbell ended up taking the tiebreaker, 7-2, for the match.
In matches that were not finished, junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and sophomore Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.) each picked up set victories. Spearman, at the No. 5 position, won set two, 6-0, over Fernanda Contreras after falling, 6-3, in set one. Contreras lead 5-1 in the third set when play was halted. Raley, at No. 6, took set one, 6-4, over Ellie Yates, before falling, 6-4, in set two.
Mizzou will next host No. 21 Kentucky on Sunday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed live on Mizzou Network, weather permitting.
