Ramblers score two goals in final 15 minutes
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (5-1-0) suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 2-1 to Loyola Chicago (2-3-1) on Sunday afternoon. A defensive first half led to senior forward Sarah Luebbert's third goal of the season, a strike to the bottom left portion of the net in the 52'. The Tiger shutout ended in the 76' with a goal from Loyola Chicago's Megan Nemec. The Ramblers would go on to score an additional goal to secure a win against the Tigers.
The first scoreless opening half of the season saw a defensive effort from both squads. Missouri limited Loyola Chicago to one shot in the first half while failing to capitalize on seven shots of their own. Sophomore forward Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) continued her hot start to the season tallying two shots on goal within a span of three minutes.
Aside from a Luebbert goal in the 52', the second half favored the visitors as the Ramblers converted two shots into goals to claim the victory. While redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Bauman recorded three saves in the second half, Loyola Chicago made the most of their limited opportunities with Megan Nemec's late brace featuring goals in the 76' and 79'.
TURNING POINT
After a lack of offensive production for the majority of the match, Loyola Chicago's Amanda Cassidy found the ball at her feet inside the box in the 76'. Rather than take a shot, Cassidy crossed the ball to Megan Nemec, catching Bauman off guard and easily slotting the ball into the bottom right portion of the goal.
Following a quick turnaround, Nemec took advantage of a one-on-one situation with a Mizzou defender, dribbled around both the defender and Bauman and rolled the ball into the empty net in the 79' for a late brace. The Ramblers would go on to defend their lead to steal the victory from the Tigers.
