Mizzou Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep With Pair of Victories over SEMO

Mizzou beats SEMO, 4-3 and 4-0 in doubleheader to improve to 6-2
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis (6-2, 0-0 SEC) finished off the weekend perfect, as the Tigers swept a doubleheader over Southeast Missouri State, 4-3 and 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. The pair of victories are the third and fourth of the weekend for the Tigers, who improved to 6-2 on the season.
MATCH 1
In the first match of the day, Mizzou need four wins in singles play to clinch the victory after losing the doubles point. Mizzou did just that, winning on courts 1, 4, 5 and 6 to win the match. Junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) started it off, winning 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 position, while senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England), freshman Valentina Vazquez Pongruber (Santiago, Chile) and freshman Rom Cardenas Rifka (Merida, Yucatan, Mexico) won on courts 4, 5 and 6, respectively. The young freshman, Cardenas Rifka, sealed the victory for Mizzou, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Maniela Barriga.
MATCH 2
The second match of the day wasn't nearly dramatic as the first, as the Tigers won the doubles point following victories from the teams of Murgett and junior Marta Oliveira (Libson, Portugal) and senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) and senior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.), while Murgett, Oliveira and Nash won in singles play. Each Tiger won in convincing fashion, winning in straight sets. Nash clinched the victory on court 4, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Teona Velkoska.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will play back-to-back doubleheaders once again next weekend, as the Tigers host UT Martin on Saturday, Jan. 30 and Omaha on Sunday, Jan. 31. The matches are scheduled for 9 a.m. CT and 1 p.m. CT both days.
