COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer downed Oklahoma 3-1 on Friday night at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.
Missouri started fast as just 37 seconds into the match senior Leah Selm received a pass from sophomore Brianna Buels. Selm sidestepped a defender towards the middle of the box and bent a shot around the outstretched arms of the Oklahoma goalkeeper to open the scoring.
The goal was the third fastest in the history of the program.
In the fourth minute, freshman Landis Canada fired a shot from the left side, the attempt found the back of the net, but was called back due to a deflection off the hand of Buels.
Looking to add to the lead in the 15th minute, Buels got free along the right side, the forward sent a cross into the center of the box that narrowly missed the charging foot freshman Emily Derucki.
In the 17th minute, a fleury of Oklahoma attempts led to a shot on goal behind the Tigers' backline that was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Kate Phillips. Phillips dove to her left to make the stop in the bottom corner.
The Sooners ramped up the offensive pressure as the half went on, but Missouri's defense held strong as the Tigers took a one-goal lead into the break.
The Tigers' got right back to work in the second half as Selm passed the ball to junior Keegan Good who struck a high-arching shot over the Oklahoma keeper into the back left corner for the score with less than five minutes elapsed.
Missouri added to the lead just nine minutes later as junior Bella Carrillo dished the ball back to Selm who pushed along the top of the box and fired a shot that deflected into the bottom right corner of the net.
The Sooners got on the board from a penalty kick in the 65th minute, cutting the Tigers' lead to two.
In the 75th minute, Oklahoma struck a high shot on goal that was pushed over the bar by Phillips.
Six minutes later the Sooners again attempted to cut the lead as a shot got behind Phillips, but senior Milena Fischer was able to make a sliding stop, intercepting the ball just inches from the net.
The attack was the Sooners' last opportunity of the evening.
Oklahoma led the Tigers in shots 15 to 10.
