Men’s Basketball Tops No. 19 Vanderbilt

The Mizzou men's basketball team earned its second ranked win of the season with an 81-80 victory over 19th-ranked Vanderbilt Wednesday night in Mizzou Arena. With the win, the Tigers improve to 18-8 on the season and 8-5 in SEC play, while nationally-ranked Commodores drop to 21-5 and 8-5 versus league foes.
MIZZOU LEADERS
MU was led by a balanced scoring attack which saw five Tigers in double figures, including Jayden Stone with a team-best 19 points to go with seven rebounds.
Stone was joined by Trent Pierce and T.O. Barrett who both had 16 points, Barrett added a career-best five assists and the duo had a pair of steals each.
Anthony Robinson II added 13 points and Mark Mitchell tallied 10 points while handing out a career-best nine assists. Trent Burns added a career-high seven rebounds for Mizzou in the winning effort.
GAME RECAP
The first stanza began back-and-forth with the Tigers and Commodores trading buckets. With the score 17-15 in favor of MU, a Stone converted-and-one three-pointer put Mizzou up by six, 21-15.
MU would lead by as much as eight as the half went on by-way of a Pierce three-pointer with 46 seconds to play. The Commodores would score on the next possession, giving the Tigers a six-point lead heading into halftime.
Out of half, a 10-0 run, highlighted by three-pointers from Pierce and Stone on consecutive possessions, put the Tigers up by 14, 47-33. Out of a Commodore timeout, MU went on a 12-6 run to extend the lead to 18, highlighted by dunks by Burns and Pierce. The Tiger run was 26-11 in total.
Mizzou extended the lead to as much as 21 before a 9-0 spurt by the visitors pushed the Tiger lead back to 10, 67-57. Back-to-back buckets by Pierce and Stone kept the lead at 10 heading into the final media timeout.
The Commodores would make one final push but MU made five free throws down the stretch to earn the victory, 81-80.
TEAM STATS
Missouri made 44.2 percent of its field goals including 50.0 percent from beyond-the-arc (10-of-20) and 78.1 percent from the charity-stripe (25-of-32).
Vanderbilt shot 43.1 percent from the field, including 40.0 percent from the 3-point line (10-of-25).

The Tigers look to continue their winning ways, heading to Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday to take on the No. 20 Razorbacks. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN.
