Men’s Basketball Falls at No. 20 Arkansas

Nationally-ranked Arkansas earned a 94-86 home win over the Mizzou men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers are now 18-9 on the year and 8-6 in SEC play, while the No. 20 Razorbacks improve to 20-7 overall and 10-4 in league play.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Senior Mark Mitchell led all players on Saturday with 26 points and eight assists (against just one turnover). It marked his fourth game of at least 20 points and five assists during SEC play as he continues to lead the Tigers throughout his senior campaign. Overall, Mitchell made 8-of-12 from the field to go with nine rebounds and four rebounds on the day.
Four Tigers scored in double figures as Trent Pierce just missed his season high with 22 points, making 9-of-15 field goals with three triples.
Shawn Phillips Jr. and Jayden Stone also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
GAME RECAP
The contest was tight throughout the first half. Trailing by a point, the Tigers used an 11-2 run to grab an eight-point advantage, 32-24. However, the hosts answered back and used a 13-2 run of its own to turn a six-point deficit into a five-point lead, 44-39. Overall, Arkansas made nine of its final 10 shots in the opening period to head into the locker room with a 47-41 advantage.
The Tigers continued to fight in the second half and cut its deficit down to one, 57-56. However, Arkansas had an answer with a mini 8-2 spurt to move in front by seven, 65-58. Mizzou stayed close until the final minutes when a 13-4 stretch pushed the Arkansas edge from five to 14 points, 91-77.
TEAM STATS
The Tigers shot 55.4 percent to 52.5 percent for the Razorbacks. Arkansas, however, was able to take advantage in fastbreak points, 17-2, points off turnovers, 18-6, and second-chance points, 15-8.

The Tigers return home and welcome Tennessee to Mizzou Arena on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on SEC Network.
