Baseball Set to Host Arkansas-Pine Bluff for Home Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After a seven-game road trip in Florida to open the 2026 season, Mizzou Baseball is back in Columbia for its home opener versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Taylor Stadium on Tuesday afternoon at 3.pm.
Tuesday's home opener will be the first contest of a five-game week for the Tigers (5-2, 0-0 SEC) at home, hosting UAPB again on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. before welcoming North Dakota State to town for a three-game weekend series.
Mizzou enters the matchup following a sweep over New Haven with all three wins coming in run-rule fashion, outscoring the Chargers 45-9 at Terry Park in Fort Myers, Florida. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-4, 0-0 SWAC) enters the mid-week set coming off a four-game series split with Stephen F. Austin at home.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN LIONS
- Arkansas-Pine Bluff is coming off a 19-34 season in 2025, going 17-10 in the Southwestern Atlantic Conference (SWAC).
- The Golden Lions' mid-week series with the Tigers will be the 10th and 11th all-time meetings between the two teams with Mizzou currently holding an 8-1 advantage in the series.
- RHP Kenney Fabian returns for his senior season with the Golden Lions, coming off a season where he led the team with a 3.84 ERA and six wins through a team high 84.1 innings of work. Fabian was selected to the Preseason All-SWAC team.
- Catcher Vinny Saumell also returns for his senior season with the Golden Lions, coming off a career-high .336 batting average in 2025, including 29 RBI and 21 runs scored. Saumell was also selected to the Preseason All-SWAC Team.
- Through the Golden Lions opening series, OF Joe Adams leads the team with a .467 batting average and a 1.100 OPS.
ON THE BUMP
- Freshman RHP JD Dohrmann is slated to be the starter in Missouri's home opener on Tuesday following an impressive outing in his collegiate debut at Florida Atlantic on Feb. 17, where he pitched 5.0 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out five Owls.
- Freshman RHP Luke Sullivan is scheduled to make the first start of his collegiate career on Wednesday in the second game of the double mid-week slate. Sullivan has appeared in two games out of the bullpen for the Tigers so far, allowing no runs through 2.2 innings of work, allowing just two hits and recording four strikeouts without allowing a walk.
MACON US GO!
- Lead-off hitter Tyler Macon has been a spark plug for the Mizzou offense to start the season.
- Through the first seven games of the campaign, Macon is leading the SEC with a .571 batting average and 18 RBI. Macon has slugged three doubles and a triple, scored 14 runs and is getting on base at a .622 clip.
- In the game three record-breaking win over Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 15, Macon became the first Tiger in program history to go 8-for-8 on base – going 6-for-6 at the plate with a pair of doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored, also reaching twice via walk.
- In addition, Macon became just the third Tiger ever to record six hits in a game and the first since Jeff Terrell in 1995 (6-for-6, cycle, vs. Iowa State). The other was Jay Hawkins in 1956 in a 27-4 win over Nebraska (6-for-7, school-record six runs scored, three stolen bases, four RBI).
FIVE-PLUS, FOR SURE
- In each start through seven games for Mizzou, starting pitchers Javyn Pimental, Josh McDevitt, Brady Kehlenbrink and JD Dohrmann have all gone 5.0 innings, combining for a 2.57 ERA and 43 strikeouts over 35.0 innings – walking just 13 batters.
- Starting pitchers have yet to record a loss, with an overall record of 5-0.
ON LIKE DONKEY KONG
- Mizzou ranks second in the Southeastern Conference with a .508 on-base percentage.
- Along with ranking fifth in the SEC with 83 hits, the Tigers have drawn 45 free passes and lead the league and rank among the national leaders with 30 HBPs.
WEAR IT!
- The Tigers are averaging 4.3 HBPs per game to lead the SEC, being plunked 30 times so far this season. Kentucky is the next closest team within the league with 22.
- Mizzou has been hit five-plus times on four occasions through seven games and has been hit at least twice on six occasions.
- Freshman Blazie Ward was hit three different times in the series finale versus New Haven.
HISTORIC OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
- Mizzou baseball used a record-setting performance from its offense in Sunday's series finale to earn a dominant 34-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 15.
- Missouri's 34 runs were its second most in a single game in program history and the most since a 35-run outing in 1902.
- As a team, the Tigers had a program-best 32 RBI, passing the previous record of 28 against Texas on April 19, 2008.
- In addition, the Tigers' 26 hits matched a program record that had been done just twice (2005 vs. Navy; 2008 vs. Texas).
- Lead-off hitter Tyler Macon went 6-for-6 (eight RBI) to become the third Tiger in program history with a six-hit performance while Jase Woita, batting second, went 4-for-7 with a home run and eight RBI. The top two spots in the Tigers' lineup combined to go 10-for-13 with 16 RBI and seven runs scored, while both Macon and Woita came up one RBI short of tying the school record (nine).
- Left fielder Isaiah Frost was overshadowed while still having a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI.
- Four Tigers scored four runs apiece: Macon, Chris Patterson, Jamal George and Gehrig Goldbeck.
- Overall, 11 Tigers recorded hits while 13 players scored a run.
NEW PIECES TO THE PUZZLE
- Head coach Kerrick Jackson went out and added some key pieces to the puzzle in the portal this offseason, highlighted by junior INF Kam Durnin and graduate 1B/OF Jase Woita.
- Woita joins the Tigers after spending one season at South Carolina where he appeared in 45 games for the Gamecocks posting a .300 batting average with six home runs. In league play, Woita was on fire at the plate all season with a .333 batting average.
- The physical, left-handed slugger is off to a hot start with the Tigers, batting .385 with an OPS of 1.099 thanks to a pair of home runs through the season's first seven games. He's driven in 11 runs, including a career-high eight RBI in the record-breaking 34-3 win over Mount Saint Mary's on Feb. 15.
- A Missouri native and transfer from Wichita State, Durnin emerged as one of the American Conference's most exciting young players over his first two collegiate seasons, where he hit .258 with 30 doubles and 68 runs scored over two full seasons with the Shockers.
- Durnin had a breakout summer where he was named Appalachian League Player of the Year after matching the Appy League record for highest single season batting average (.407) and setting a new RBI record (56) in just 40 games.
