
Softball gets Double Dose of Victories on Day One of Mizzou Bye-Week Series

The Tigers start the Mizzou Bye-Week Series 2-0 as they are now 10-16 on the season.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball (10-16, 0-3 SEC) finished Day One of the Mizzou Bye-Week series with an 8-1 win over Big 10 opponent Minnesota and 9-4 victory against South Dakota.
Mizzou 8, Minnesota 1
After two scoreless innings, in the bottom of the third freshman Addy Waits hit one out to center field placing two runners in scoring position. Following that, junior Stefania Abruscato hit an RBI double, giving the Tigers a lead of 2-0.
Junior Abby Hay continued the RBI run bringing in Abruscato. Sophomore Sophie Smith laid down a bunt resulting in pinch runner Danielle Blackstun making it home. At the end of the third Missouri had the lead, 4-0, with four runs and three hits.
In the fourth inning, sophomore Madison Uptegrove and senior Kayley Lenger both recorded singles and put Missouri on first and second. Abruscato hit her second double of the night, bringing in Uptegrove and Lenger.
At the end of the fourth inning, Missouri leads 6-1 over the Gophers.
Freshman Abby Carr hit a line drive to center field to start the fifth. The Tigers scored another run on a throw from center field that led Smith to advance to home, ending the fifth, 7-1.
In the sixth, Abruscato hit her third double, resulting in an RBI bringing redshirt freshman Saniya Hill who had a single up the middle beforehand.
Abruscato had a career-high night with three doubles and five RBIs. The last time a Tiger recorded three doubles in a game was Mya Dodge against George Mason on March 28, 2024.
McCann was awarded the victory with pitching for the full seven innings, having six strikeouts, allowing four hits and only one earned run.
Mizzou 9, South Dakota 4
MU started off the first inning with a run as sophomore Sophie Smith gets an RBI from a ground out to first. South Dakota returned with a two-run home run in the top of the second.
In the bottom of the third, freshman Sidney Forrester hit a home run to deep center field, tying the game to 2-2. The freshmen continued with the home runs as Abby Carr hit one into left field with runners on first and second.
The two teams continued to play back-and-forth with one another in the fourth inning as South Dakota responded to the Tigers' four-run innings from a two-run single. However, Mizzou responded with a pair of two RBI doubles from sophomores Madison Uptegrove and Smith.
The fifth and sixth inning went scoreless between the two teams, with the Tigers continuing their lead of five over the Coyotes.
Carr ended the game as relief pitcher for the Black and Gold and struck out the last three batters.
Senior Cierra Harrison earned the victory for the game, pitching 3.2 innings and tallying three strikeouts against South Dakota.

- The Tigers are now 13-8 (current record) against Minnesota and 2-0 against South Dakota.
- Junior Stefania Abruscato had a career high with three doubles and five RBIs against Minnesota.
- Freshman Abby Carr tied her career-high record of three RBI's against South Dakota.
- Sophomore Sophie Smith recorded three RBIs against South Dakota, matching her season-high record.
