Baseball Sets Attendance Record, Drops StorageMart Border Showdown to Kansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball fell to Kansas in the second 2026 diamond edition of the StorageMart Border Showdown, 11-8, on Tuesday evening at Taylor Stadium in front of 3,207 fans, marking a Mizzou regular-season attendance record.
The Tigers (17-13, 1-8 SEC) charged back to take an 8-6 lead in the fourth after falling behind 6-0. Freshman Blaize Ward delivered a two-out, three-run bases-clearing triple to put Mizzou on top, but after scoring eight runs in the fourth, the Tigers were shut out the final five innings. MU got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but was unable to find the equalizer.
Kansas (19-10, 6-3 Big 12) got on the board early with a two-run homer in the first inning. The Jayhawks were able to add two runs in both the third and fourth innings to give them a 6-0 lead.
Mizzou got on the board in the fourth with a 10 pitch at-bat that ended in a two-run blast to right-center field (400 ft.) off the bat of freshman catcher Juliomar Campos for his first collegiate homer, cutting the Kansas lead to four. The fourth-inning rally continued with a walk from Keegan Knutson, a single from Tyler Macon and a single from Kam Durnin to load the bases with just one out.
Center fielder Kaden Peer came through with a single to left field that brought Knutson and Macon home to make it a 6-4 game. Designated hitter Jase Woita was able to reach after getting hit by a pitch, loading the bases up yet again, allowing Ward to deliver the bases-clearing triple that put the Tigers on top, 7-6. Donovan Jordan capped off the eight-run inning with an RBI double down the right-field line, bringing Ward in to score to give Missouri an 8-6 lead.
The Jayhawks responded with an unearned run in the fifth to cut the Tigers' lead in half. Freshman righty Sam Rosand provided a strong 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, giving up just one unearned run on one hit, while striking out one batter.
Kansas was able to put up four in the eighth to take an 11-8 lead, highlighted by a three-run homer to left field.
Lefty Juan Villarreal came out of the Missouri bullpen to record the final four outs, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and punching out two Jayhawks.
The Tigers were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth but were unable to even the score as the Jayhawks hung on for the 11-8 win.

- Campos led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a two-run shot in the fourth for his first collegiate home run. The homer capped off a 10-pitch at-bat in which the freshman fouled off four pitches.
- Peer was solid at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, a run and a walk to extend his on-base streak to 18 games. He also stole his fifth bag of the season.
- Ward extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, highlighted by a three-run triple to put the Tigers on top in the fourth. The freshman has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.
- Jordan stayed hot at the dish, going 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the fourth inning that capped off Missouri's eight-run inning.
- Macon finished the day 1-for-3 with a single and a run.
- Woita extended his on-base streak to 25 games after being hit a pitch, which is the longest streak by a Tiger this season.
- With a pair of singles, Durnin has now recorded a hit in six consecutive games and has been on base in 17-consecutive contests.
- Rosand was strong out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 innings, giving up one unearned run and a hit.
- Villarreal also had a good performance in relief, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and punching out a pair of Jayhawks.
The Tigers will head to Lexington, Kentucky, for a three-game weekend series with the 24th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats. The series opener is set for Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. CT (SECN+), followed by game two on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT (SECN+) and the series finale Sunday at noon (SEC Network).
