
Softball Takes Control of the State with Win Over Missouri State

The Tigers are now on a five-game winning streak as they have won 13 of their last 15 games.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Mizzou softball (20-18, 4-5 SEC) won the battle for the state with a 8-5 victory over Missouri State (15-18, 4-8 CUSA) on Tuesday, March 31, at Killian Stadium.
Freshman Abby Carr got the start in this one, as she threw 4.0 innings allowing one run, while going 3-4 from the plate with two RBIs. Senior Courtney Donahue recorded her first career save with the Tigers after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits, and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mizzou got the ball rolling in the second inning as Carr led off with a single, and not long after, the Tigers had runners on second and third with one out. Senior Kayley Lenger came through with a single to score two to open the scoring. Mizzou added one more on base, and then junior Stefania Abruscato's first triple of the season scored two to make it 4-0 after the top of the second.
Missouri State threatened in the backend half of the inning with runners on first and second, but Carr struck out the final two batters of the inning to push us to the third.
The Tigers' success at the plate continued into the third, as they scored four more runs in the top half. Carr started with a two-run home run, and sophomore Madison Uptegrove followed that with a two-run home run.
MU went scoreless in the top of the fourth, but the Bears didn't as they loaded the bases and scored their first run of the ballgame on a fielder's choice.
Carr's day on the mound ended after that as she finished with 4.0 innings pitched, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out four. In the fifth inning, the Bears cut the deficit in half as they plated three to make the score 8-4.
Missouri State closed the gap again in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out single to make it 8-5.
Senior Courtney Donahue shut the door on the late surge, as she earned her first career save with the Tigers, as Carr improves to 4-3 on the season.

- Mizzou leads the all-time series 40-13, and are now 7-0 in Springfield, Mo.
- The Tigers are 13-2 in their last 15 games.
- MU is 5-1 in midweek games this season.
