Tigers Tennis Falls Late At Nebraska, 4-3

LINCOLN, Neb. - Mizzou tennis saw their four match winning streak come to an end, as they dropped a 4-3 contest today at Nebraska. The match came down to the final singles contest of the day, as Nebraska's win at the No. 6 spot sealed the home team's victory.
The Tigers (7-3) got off to a strong start Sunday, as they took the first two doubles matches and earned the first team point. The tandem of sophomores Beatriz Machado Santos and Brittany Lashway earned an 8-3 win, and the duo of juniors Kelli Hine and Madison Rhyner picked up an 8-2 victory.
Up next, the two squads moved to singles play and the Tigers dropped their first two contests. Sophomore Cassidy Spearman responded nicely for Mizzou, and evened the match score with a win at the No. 2 spot over Izabella Zgierska (6-4, 4-6, 6-2).
Spearman's victory pushed her singles winning streak to four, as she improved to 8-1 in singles play so far this spring season.
After another Cornhusker singles win, the Tigers had to fight back again and freshman Brianna Lashway answered in a big way with a victory over Katerina Matysova at No. 5 action (6-4, 6-4).
Mizzou continues on the road next weekend in Houston, Texas. On Friday, Feb. 20, the Tigers and Houston meet, while two days later on Sunday, Feb. 22 the Tigers square off against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. First serves for next weekend are set for 3 p.m. (CT) and 1 p.m. (CT), respectively.
