
Softball Splits Day Two at Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational

The Tigers move to 3-7 on the year, and snap a five-game losing streak
Mizzou softball (3-7) split the second day of the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational as it fell to Northwestern in the first game, 3-0, before besting FAU, 2-0, on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The Tigers stopped a five-game losing streak as junior starting pitcher Marissa McCann shut out the Owls to give Mizzou its third win of the season.
Northwestern 3, Mizzou 0
The Tigers went scoreless in their first game of the day, as Northwestern's starter Marina Mason, pitched a complete game shutout.
Mizzou was able to gather two hits, with one coming from sophomore Madison Uptegrove in the fifth and the other from redshirt freshman Saniya Hill in the top of the seventh.
The Wildcats scored three runs in this one, as two singles in the third brought home two and a single in the bottom of sixth extended the lead to 3-0.
Senior Cierra Harrison moved to 1-3 on the season, as she allowed two earned runs in two and two thirds. Senior Courtney Donahue would relieve her and throw two and two thirds scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Mizzou 2, No. 23 FAU 0
Junior Marissa McCann threw her first career complete game shutout, as she allowed just four hits, and struck out four. McCann put up one of her best games, as the Tigers manufactured two runs to give her, her first win of the season.
Freshman Addy Waits was the hero of this one from the plate, as a two-run triple – the first triple of the season for Mizzou – scored the lone runs of the ballgame.
Eight players tallied hits in this one, as freshman Sidney Forrester was the lone player to reach base twice as she walked in the opening frame.
