Tennis Splits Doubleheader in Nashville

Mizzou tennis went 1-1 in its doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 22. The Black and Gold fell to Southeastern Conference opponent Vanderbilt, 1-6, and secured a 5-0 victory over Tennessee State.
Match One: Vanderbilt
The Tigers were unable to clinch the doubles point against Vanderbilt. Sophomore Zoe Lazar and freshman Lara Quaglia were defeated by No.10-ranked Valeria Ray and Bridget Stammel, 6-4. Senior Andrea Artimedi and sophomore Gian Octa fell 6-2 to their opponents, and freshman Alex Ackman and sophomore Korina Roso's match ended unfinished against the No. 2-ranked doubles pair.
In singles, the Tigers faced three nationally ranked opponents, falling in five of the six matches. Artimedi was able to earn a point for Mizzou and battled to win her match, which went to a third-set tiebreaker, finishing 12-10.
Match Two: Tennessee State
Mizzou was able to return from the earlier loss, sweeping Tennessee State in both singles and doubles. Roso and Ackman secured a quick 6-1 win, followed by Quaglia and Lazar with a 6-2 win. Octa and Artimedi went unfinished, leading their match 5-2.
Continuing in singles, the Tigers finished up quickly, starting with Lazar sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Quaglia was right behind her, also earning a 6-0, 6-0 statement win. Octa finished third with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, followed by Ackman with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Roso and Artimedi did not go on to play singles, as the Black and Gold clinched a 5-0 win.

The Tigers head to Chicago for a midweek matchup against DePaul on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at noon CT.
