STILLWATER, Okla. – In the team's second straight road match against a ranked opponent, the University of Missouri (2-2) lost to No. 22 Oklahoma State (3-1) on Tuesday night, 7-0.
The Tigers put up a strong fight for the doubles point, led by Bronte Murgett and Gabriela Martinez. The duo took down Dariya Detkovskaya and Oona Orpana to earn their first doubles victory of the season, 6-1. Tied at one apiece for the doubles point, Ellie Wright and Elys Ventura looked tough against Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto, but the Cowgirls prevailed.
Wright took on No. 55 Orpana in singles, forcing each game down to the wire. In the last match to finish, Orpana ended with the win, 7-6, 6-3. Murgett faced Rioux in a competitive matchup but lost, 4-6, 3-6. Ventura battled back in the second set of her contest against Sofia Rojas, but dropped the match, 2-6, 4-6.
Assistant coach Katarina Adamovic was also honored at the Greenwood Tennis Center as one of the most accomplished former Oklahoma State players in program history. Adamovic was met with a highlight video, token plaque, and cheering crowd.
"It was an exciting day of recognizing one of the greatest players in the history of Oklahoma State, our very own Kat Adamovic," said head coach Chris Wootton, "The match did not go our way from start to finish. We were able to scratch and claw our way back into a few matches, but the result was not great today. We will go back to Columbia with a lot to work on and be ready for the back-to-back matches coming up next week."
