COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball earned its sixth-straight win on Friday night, defeating North Dakota State, 11-5, at Taylor Stadium in game one of a three-game series. Lefty Javyn Pimental (2-0, 1.72 ERA) gave the Tigers another strong start on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing just one earned run (two total) on two hits while punching out five to earn his second win of the campaign.
The win for Mizzou (8-2, 0-0 SEC) marks the longest win-streak for the Tigers since winning nine-straight games early in the 2023 season (Feb. 24-March 10).
The Mizzou offense struck first, plating a pair of runs in the first inning on a double to the right-center field gap by freshman Blaize Ward that brought Jase Woita and Mateo Serna in to score. The Tigers extended their lead in the third on an errant throw by the shortstop that allowed Woita to score from second base, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, Mizzou poured on four more runs, highlighted by a two-run single to center field off the bat of Woita that scored Cameron Benson and Isaiah Frost, followed by a two-out triple down the right field line from Macon that brought Woita around to score from first, putting the Tigers up 7-0 through four.
Pimental rolled into the sixth inning at just 58 pitches, working efficiently through his first five frames. In the sixth, the Bison (1-8, 0-0 Summit) were able to put some pressure on the southpaw. After three walks to load the bases, NDSU's Colton Becker singled to shallow left field to plate the Bison's first run of the game. The Tigers turned to freshman Eli Skidmore out of the bullpen, and an error in the infield by Mizzou allowed a second run to score in the inning, charged to Pimental, unearned. Skidmore responded with a fielder's choice ground out to get MU out of the sixth with a 7-2 lead.
After the Bison plated one more run in the seventh to trim the lead to four, the Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own. With two outs, third baseman Chris Patterson reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that pulled the first baseman off the bag, allowing Ward to score. Back-to-back singles from Frost and Woita brought Benson, Maisonet and Patterson home, growing the Mizzou lead back to eight runs.
RHP Juan Villarreal entered in the eighth and closed the game out, throwing the final two innings while giving up two unearned runs on one hit, striking out three batters.
